Oyo: Fire Ravages Five Shops in Ibadan

Properties and equipment worth millions of naira have been destroyed by an early morning fire that ravages five ships in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Heritage Echo gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday, besides Olowo-Ifon Shopping Complex, Orita Challenge area, Ibadan

Five out of eleven affected shops were destroyed and some were salvaged from the inferno.

The special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman Hon Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident to our correspondence.

He said; “On Wednesday 9th July,2025, at exactly 02: 24hrs , the incident was reported through a telephone call and Mr Kehinde Shotayo that there was a fire incident at the above stated address.

“The Agency’s personnel led by CFS Adesina Olusoji promptly mobilized to the scene of the incident and on arrival, we met shops engulfed by fire .

“We quickly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to unaffected nearby shops and the nearby shopping complex.

“The fire was completely extinguished and fire safety advice was given to the public on how to prevent fire incidents.

Akinwande confirmed that the fire affected five(5) out of eleven (11) shops and the Agency’s personnel were able to save properties worth millions of naira.

The fire incident was traced to be electric surge ignited nearby combustibles and set the shops ablaze.

The victim commended the Governor of Oyo State Engr ‘Seyi Makinde courtesy of the prompt response of the state fire service to curb the devastating fire.

However, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Reform/ Chairman Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande urged the public to be conscious of fire every time and to understand the needful of having fire extinguishers in their respective buildings in order to prevent fire at the incipient stage.
