Amidst the defection of some major Members in the party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) concerned member in Oyo Federal Constituency has called on the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on the recent defection of some members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo township.

Speaking to our correspondence, a loyalist party member, Dauda Temitope Wahab (Prof T), acknowledged that this call to action comes amid concern about defections to other parties and the need to fan a fresh approach to strengthen the party further.
He said the clarion call emphasizes the importance of rejuvenating the party’s structures, engaging with members, and adopting a more inclusive approach to decision-making.

Explaining the reason for the defection, Dauda Temitope stated that “we perceived dominance of a single faction in major appointments by the Governor which has created discontent among other party members. This has led to feelings of marginalization and exclusion.

The statement read in parts;
A Call to Action: Strengthening PDP in Oyo Federal Constituency

Dear Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
We express our deep concern about the recent trend of defections from our party in the Oyo Federal Constituency.
The exodus of many parties’ faithful to opposition parties is alarming and warrants urgent attention.
On the Root Causes of Defection, our observations suggest that the major causes of these defections can only be addressed by His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
The perceived dominance of a single faction in major appointments by the Governor has created discontent among other party members.
This has led to feelings of marginalization and exclusion.
On Stability and Unity at Stake
We are worried about the stability and unity of our party in the Oyo Federal Constituency. The growing number of aggrieved party members could have far-reaching consequences for our party’s fortunes in the state.
A Plea for Inclusive Leadership.
We humbly request that the party leadership take a closer look at the situation and work towards promoting inclusivity and fairness in the party’s affairs.
We believe that this can be achieved by:
- Ensuring that appointments and opportunities are distributed fairly and equitably among party members
- Encouraging dialogue and engagement between different factions within the party
- Addressing the grievances of aggrieved party members in a timely and satisfactory manner
Finally, we urge the party leadership to take immediate action to address these concerns and prevent further defections.
We are confident that with inclusive leadership and a commitment to fairness, our party can regain its strength and momentum in Oyo Federal Constituency.
Sincerely,
Dauda Temitope Wahab
