In an update made available to the Heritage Echo newsroom, a horrific incident occurred in Ilowa Gbade Village, Atiba local government areas of Oyo State, where Fulani herdsmen attacked a farmer and cut off his hands respectively.

It could be recalled that there have been reports of Fulani herdsmen clashing with farmers in various parts of Nigeria, resulting in loss of lives and properties.
The victim, John Akin, was working on his cassava farm when the herdsmen invaded with their cows, destroying his crops. He thereafter pleaded with the herdsmen to direct their cows to leave the farmland; their swift response was to attack him with matches and hurriedly cut off his two-finger hands out of five.


According to the eyewitnesses, this brutal attack has turned the village into an unrest. Meanwhile, one of the herdsmen was arrested and has been taken into Police custody for further investigation.


The Nigerian Police, Atiba command, has been duly informed about the incident, and where necessary investigation is ongoing to launch a manhunt to arrest others.

The Oyo State government under the leadership of His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE, DSSRS, has been urged to take decisive action to address the growing tensions between farmers and herdsmen. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for greater protection for farmers and their properties
