The People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State has reacted to the fallacious statement credited to the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Mr Olawale Sadare that the Oyo State Government has forcefully taken over the structures housing public reading and learning facilities in Dugbe, Ibadan and their conversion into lock up shops and shopping malls.
The PDP described the APC’s outcry as that of a drowning person who is desperately in need of attention to be saved. The PDP demanded that the APC should point out to one thing its eight years administration under late Abiola Ajimobi led administration did to revamp the Oyo State Library Board. The PDP said instead of the APC becoming an alarmist, it should have done its research better.
According to the PDP acting spokesman in Oyo State, Mr Ogunsina Michael, he said Dugbe is one of the commercial hubs of the State and as at the time the library was built by the Western Premier government, Dugbe had not become a business district. Ogunsina said part of the plans is to relocate the library from where it is to another place conducive for its purpose.
He said the particular part where the shopping complex is being built is the bushy part of the library premises which had been unattended to for many years which the government thought it wise to utilize instead of letting it lay fallow thereby becoming a safe haven to the criminals and miscreants around the axis. Ogunsina said the particular part of the library had become an eyesore and the government cannot fold its arms and let the place become an hideout for criminals.
” The library board is there and there is nothing that has happened to it. The APC should stop misinforming the people of Oyo State as that will lead them to nowhere. If their administration had done right by the library board, this administration wouldn’t have had any reason to convert the bushy part of the library board to a shopping complex befitting of the esthetic of Ibadan city.”
Ogunsina said the library shopping complex is being built through the PPP and part of the agreement with the developer is to build a 200- seater CBT facility inside the library board for the use of the State.
The APC should be reminded that during the eight years they held sway, they did absolutely nothing to renovate the libraries in Oyo State. The PDP said the APC should cover its face in shame as they are living in their past glories and nobody is paying attention to them. The PDP instructed the APC to make use of common sense on important issues and should stop playing politics with State issues all the time.
