The Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola, has inaugurated a committee for the distribution of federal government palliative grains disbursed to the local government through the Oyo State government. These palliatives are meant for the vulnerable at the grassroots level.

The standing committee was inaugurated today at the Chairman’s office in Kosobo, Oyo, Oyo State.

While inaugurating the 18-member committee of stakeholders, the Council Boss, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola, commended the Federal Government for the humanitarian gesture extended across the 774 local governments.

He also lauded His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE, for allocating 50 kg of maize and garri to each of the 33 local governments in the state, emphasizing accountability, inclusivity, and transparency.

He urged the committee to be diligent in their task, noting that the distribution of grains and garri palliatives would significantly alleviate the suffering of the vulnerable due to the high cost of commodities and help reduce hunger.

Oluokun, who also serves as the Committee Chairman for the distribution of palliatives, warned against the diversion of the grains, stressing that selling or any other form of diversion of the grains would be detrimental to the purpose of the scheme. He mentioned that the bags have been stamped “Not to be Sold” and stressed that anyone caught attempting to sell them would be sanctioned.
He assured the residents of Oyo East of equitable distribution of the palliatives across all areas of the council.

Oluokun reaffirmed that the vulnerable across the ten zones in Oyo East, including farmers, traders, artisans, physically challenged people, public boarding schools, and other residents of the council area, would benefit from the palliatives.

In his words, Oba Ajagba, Chief Odurinde Samuel, described the intervention as strategic, adding that it was part of the government’s effort to reduce persistent inflation and hunger.

He commended the state government for its magnanimity in delivering the federal government palliatives to the local government chairman, saying it was timely and would help reduce hunger.
