The Executive Chairman, of Oyo East Local Government, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola has urged the residents of Oyo East Local Government Area and its environs against the consumption of local and unregistered beverages such as kunnu, sobo, and pap drinking, citing them as potential sources of a cholera outbreak.
In a statement released and made available to newsmen, Hon. Oluokun underscore significant of preventive measures and collaboration with health officers in maintaining hygiene environment, urging the residents to avoid drinking untreated water inna way to curb the deadly diseases.
He further assured the residents that local health officials are actively working to control the outbreak of cholera adding that suspected cases can be reported via the State emergency hotline 615.
The Council Boss, Oluokun, urged the general public most especially Oyo East residents to wash their hands regularly and after using the toilet with soap and clean water. Stressing that Cholera, a water-borne disease, causes diarrhea, and severe dehydration and can lead to death if not detected and properly treated.
The infection is highly contagious yet easily preventable with clean water and sanitation.
In addition to curtailing any possible outbreak of the disease in the local government area, the residents were also advised to take the following measures as a way of galvanizing themselves against the disease; Drink safe water, Wash hands frequently, Use soap and clean water, Use proper sanitation, Avoid contaminated food, Keep surroundings clean, Avoid close contact with infected individuals and Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms arise.
