In a pragmatic move to prevent the spread of diseases and promote cleanliness, the young citizens of Pacesetter State under the platform of the Federation of Oyo State Union Students (FOSSU) National Council, led by Senator Alarape Ibrahim Ayinla, on Friday, set themselves up into a structure that covers the 5 Geo-political zones of the state to clean up Bodija Market, Ibadan, and engage community members on the various benefits of a cleaner environment.
The active Indigenous student body launched a significant sanitation drive tagged: “OPERATION KEEP OYO STATE CLEAN” with an intensive door-to-door waste evacuation to prevent the outbreak of cholera diseases to maintain a healthy and sanitized environment.
Speaking to Heritage Echo News Correspondence, FOSSU National President, Senator Alarape Ibrahim Ayinla, maintained that, the initiative was driven by the desire to ensure the safety of the good people of Oyo State, most especially market traders.
“Our parents and loved ones may be too busy to prioritize health and safety processes, that’s why we organized this campaign to sensitize them on the importance of maintaining safe and healthy practices which is crucial to comply with health instructions to prevent cholera outbreaks”.
According to him, “We were able to educate traders on disease prevention, with a focus on combating the recent cholera outbreaks in some states”.
” We emphasized the importance of preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease. As Students, we have this little way to contribute to the development of the State”.
Prince Adebowale, the Chairman of Oyo State Agency for Youths Development, who joined to show his support during the event appreciated the student leaders, claiming that the students’ union has shown exemplary leadership in promoting environmental sustainability and community Welfare.
With these initiatives, Senator Alarape led the administration on “Operation Keep Oyo State Clean” which is a testament to the power of youth engagement and the impact that can be made when young people come together for a common goal. This dedication is a reflection of their love for their State and their desire to make a positive impact on their community.
“It’s a thing of pride to see Students and young people committed to ensuring a clean and safe environment for Oyo State,” he said. The Chairman now encouraged others. As a youth, it should be in our DNA to promote a safe, healthy, and cleaner environment for all.
The clean-up event saw participation from various Stakeholders including Environmental Officer, Prince Falana Adebowale, Chairman, Oyo State Agency for Youths Development, Hon. Victor Dideoluwa Olojede, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Hon. Deji Ola, Special Assistant to the Governor on Political, representative of Iyaloja Bodija and Others.
In his appreciation note, Comrade Alarape Ibrahim commended the FOSSU Stakeholders, Zonal Presidents, Chapter Presidents, and especially the FOSSU National Executives both the Central Executive Council and Senate Arms for the successful execution of an event of this magnitude.
He also lauded Mr. Olanlokun Yusuf Olatunji and several others for their great support towards the success of the program.
