…..Warn Residents Against Breach of Order

The security agencies in Oyo State have collaborated to ensure peace and order before, during and after the Local Government Councils Election, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 27 April across the Thirty Three (33) Local Government Areas of the state .

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat , while speaking at a Joint Press Briefing comprising the Security Chiefs in the state, held on Thursday at the Police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, warned residents against the breach of law.

He announced that over 12,000 security operatives, excluding men of the Nigerian Army, will be across the wards and polling units in the state.

CP Hamzat reiterated that there will be restrictions on vehicular movement from 6am to 6 pm tomorrow , and urged residents to reach out to the command on 08081768614, Toll Free line , 614 , and Situation Room, 09054133071 / 09061299291 in case of threats or emergencies.

In their separate remarks, the heads of other security agencies also warned those that have no business with the election to distance themselves from polling units, as security officers will deal with anyone, who attempt to truncate the peaceful conduct of the council poll.

While reacting to the staff attack at Okeho, the OYSIEC Chairman , Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, SAN, said the Commission will not condone harassment on any of its staff who are committed to conducting smooth and transparent elections.

The OYSIEC boss also appealed to the Commissioner of Police to ensure the culprits of the attack on the electoral officer at Okeho are brought to book, to serve as deterrent to others, lamenting that the attack was unwarranted as OYSIEC is working in the interest of the people of the state.

Aare Olagunju pointed out that the peace accord was signed by political parties on Monday to maintain peace, before, during and after the Election.

He urged politicians to abide by the rules and regulations of the Election to sustain peace in the state.
