The Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded the executive governor of the state, Engr Seyi Makinde over the award he received over the weekend as the Vanguard Governor of Year.
This was as the ruling PDP in the state expressed confidence that the forthcoming March 11 governorship election was for Governor Makinde and the PDP to grab insisting that opposition candidates participating in the election should simply withdraw or continue to waste resources in a race they already lost.
The ruling PDP described the award as a confirmation of Makinde’s purposeful leadership and good governance that should be sustained beyond 2023 in order to sustain the spread of physical development across all geopolitical zones in the state as well as deliver more dividends of democracy to the electorates.
A press statement by the Publicity Secretary of the ruling PDP in Oyo state, Akeem Olatunji on behalf of the party on Monday January 30, commended Makinde for upholding the democratic principles of founding fathers of modern Nigerian democracy such as Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Samuel Ladoke Akintola, Chief Bola Ige, and others.
The statement added that in the face of needless distractions, governor Makinde has continued to thrive in the business of governing the state to the joy of the masses which occasioned the award stressing that the governor has already raised the bar of governance in modern day Oyo state far above the level of mediocrity and what it called directionless and vision-less politicians.
Consequently, the ruling PDP in the state urged upcoming politicians in the party to continue to pay keen attention to Makinde’s disposition and approach to governance in order to be able to galvanize the already recorded and ongoing achievements for greater good after 2027 when Makinde would have completed his second term and ready to handover leadership to a successor.
It would be recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde was quoted over the weekend as saying his Vanguard Governor of the year award would spur him to do more after. Reacting to this statement, the party said, It is however, imperative to awake and reawake the consciousness of the electorates ahead of the March 11 governorship poll.
This, according to Oyo state PDP will prevent the voting population from being manipulated and exploited via the instrumentalities of false propaganda, deceits and unrestrained lies by the Governor’s distractions and enemies of the state masquerading in treacherous disguise to gain access to the state’s coffers.
“We as the ruling party in Oyo state are more than proud to have produced governor Makinde who has not only been tagged God’s sent man (GSM) by the masses who gave him the first mandate but is now also being referred to as the Mr ‘talk and do’.
“What the award simply means is that governor Makinde’s remarkable and sterling performance in less than four years in office is being noticed and celebrated at the national and international stage.
“As the ruling party in the state, we are not unmindful of the tasks ahead and the required level of commitment and dedication to deliver, reason we are calling on all eligible voters to cast their votes for Governor Seyi Makinde come March 11, and we guarantee the good people of Oyo state that there would be no going back on continuous spread of physical development across all the geopolitical zones in the state.
“We urge the people of Oyo state to remain firm and resolute in their support for PDP and the Seyi Makinde led government because together we have achieved great and unprecedented results in only less than four years and only together can we consolidate on these achievements to advance our success story to greater heights.” The party stated.
