The veteran filmmaker, Alejandro Jodorowsky, in his wisdom, espoused that “a bird that is used to a cage would think flying is a kind of illness”. This assertion lucidly explains the reaction of the opposition to Governor Seyi Makinde’s interview a few days ago. The leadership of APC in Oyo State is used to bad governance to the extent that they see good governance as a sin.
Beyond flimsy talks and mere grandiloquence, all available indices have shown that the son of Makinde has brought sophistication to governance in Oyo State. His style of governance is only available in advanced nations that are scientific in administration. Being transparent, taking responsibility, and showing accountability are traits of modern governance.
The undemocratic and dishonest tendencies of the opposition in Oyo State, most especially the APC, have made them develop a thick skin for truth and sincerity. The candid and genuine statements made by Seyi Makinde during the last interview outrightly dwarfed their thoughts. Their jailbird thinks flying (honesty) is an ailment (crime), but they would either change to accept the reality of Makinde’s indefatigability or they would continue to wallow in an unresolved agony of 2019 as another metabolic vanquish awaits them in 2023.
What did Makinde say that transcended them to the realm of hullabaloo? He listed those aspects in which he had performed excellently and did not fail to mention those aspects that needed more attention. Makinde admited and took responsibility for his actions and decisions, unlike what they are used to. Makinde’s kind of administrative language will definitely be “uninspiring and disappointing” to people that have befriended dishonesty and romanced failures.
Well, when you see people following a man that wants to turn a bus terminal into a hostel, you will simply know that it takes birds of a feather to flock together. People who saw nothing wrong with the price of a bag of rice rising from #8000 under PDP in 2015 to #40,000 under their disaster government will not appreciate good things. From North to South and East to West, they have made life miserable and unbearable for the masses, yet they want to continue with their malevolent adventures.
People who lived through the Ajimobi Era and the tenure of Seyi Makinde would never wish for the APC to be at the helm of affairs again. The Egyptians we saw in 2019. We shall see them no more because the people are more wiser to decide against the locusts and termites that only want to hijack the instrumentalities of power for selfish and nefarious gains.
APC malevolent acts and policies forced primary and secondary school children out of their various schools to the streets and they started chanting war songs against a sitting government, you remember how those boys took their confrontation to APC Secretariat? Ajimobi ti lẹkun mori, ko’le jáde. Lautech students were also abused and molested by Late Ajimobi instead of appealing to the angered Nigerian students over the poor state of their citadelof learning, APC will be remembered with other wicked governments like Pol Pot in Cambodian, Idi Amin of Uganda, Caligula of Roman, Leopold of Belgium and other tyrannical regimes.
From education to infrastructure, from agriculture to economy, from Oke Ogun to Ibadan, and down to Ogbomoso, Oyo, and Ibarapa, everyone has had a taste of Makinde’s honey and nobody wants to return to a bitter era. The sophistication in Makinde’s governance and utterances will continue to throw the APC into disarray. They will not get over the 2019 defeat till their coffin is permanently nailed in 2023.
