The board of Water Corporation of Oyo State led by the executive chairman, Dr Adebayo Anthony Adebayo embarked on a tour to some of the facilities of the corporation across the state. The board was at the Opeki Dam at Ibarapa East Local Government, Eruwa. Engr Oluseye Oladipo, the district Manager pointed out the challenges of the facilities including encroachment of the water by sea weed, burglary of the facilities by herders, leakages, faulty equipment among others.


Adressing the situation, the Executive Chairman of Water Corporation of Oyo State, Dr.Adepoju on Opeki dam which supply water to Eruwa, Lanlate, Igboora, Idere among others, the corporation chairman said the visit was part of effort of Governor Seyi Makinde Administration’s programme to revive constant supply of portable water to all residents of the state. The Opeki River Dam is a medium size dam with a maximum active storage capacity of 2.1million cubic metre (mcm) and a guaranteed maximum all year round active storage of 1.78mcm. Extensive work and proper maintenance of water reservoirs has been identified as profitable strategy to solving the challenge of providing adequate of portable water
Dr. Adebayo made it available that for the past 9 years there has been no supply of portable water to Eruwa, Lanlate, Igboora, Idanre and other areas where Opeki Dam services covers, he therefore promised the people of Ibarapa land the water supply will be made available very soon as Governor Seyi Makinde has given the Water Corporation of Oyo State all the necessary tools and support for the revival of constant supply of water to all residents of the state.



The board thereafter visited the Executive Chairman, Ibarapa East Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Obalowo and his counterpart in Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Adeoye Oloyede, to synergize on ways to ensure that the people of the Local Government enjoy constant portable water supply. The board members accompanied the Executive Chairman in the inspection of the facilities are Rev.Adenike Victor- Tade, Mr. Adesiyan Bashir Adeyinka,and Hon.Shittu Jimoh Ayanbisi.
