Oyo Govt To Wage War Against Open Defecation, Sets To Deploy Mobile Toilets To Markets, Motor Parks

Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde is set to unveil fifty(50) Mobile Toilets to Strategic Locations like, Markets, Motor Parks and other places with the aim of eradicating open defecation in the State capital.

The Project will be part of the Ones outlined for the Second Anniversary of the present administration in the State.

According to the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr AbdulLateef Idowu Oyeleke, during the Press Conference in Ibadan. Oyeleke emphasized that, this initiative is first of its kind in the history of the State, where Mobile Toilet facilities will be provided for the use of citizens, travellers and traders at an affordable cost.

He further reinstated that, apart from the health risks associated with the open defecation, the practice is uncivilized, barbaric & crude and there must be a stop to the ugly act one day. It is on this note, the public enlightenement will be created by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and once this laudable project is launched by the Governor, Government will wage serious war against Open Defecation and the offenders will be arrested and prosecuted by the Environmental Health Officers & Task Force Team.

In another development, The Honourable Commissioner, Barrister Oyeleke Idowu, The Permanent Secretary, Alhaji (Dr) Bashir Olanrewaju and The Assessment Panel have Inspected the delivery of Ten(10) Tricycles and other Trucks designed for the Parking and buying of Wastes in our public places and homes that are usable for recycling processes, such as nylons, bottles, broken plastic and other degradable materials.

Barrister Oyeleke stated that, the Youths will be gainfully employed by the Consultant to drive the Tricycles and some will be engaged in the parking of these materials. This initiative of getting rid of Wastes in our public places will not only enhance the efforts of the present administration led by the Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde in Clean & Green Policy but will also reduce significantly the incidence of flood which usually occurs when it rains as a result of blocking of drainages through indiscriminate dumping of Wastes.

The Commissioner also ensured that, the Investor will not only employ our youths but be mandated to set up a Modern Recycling Facilities in the State, so that the materials gather here can not be moved to other states and this will invariably improve our economic base in the State.
