The announcement of Ogun State Government to recruits 1,500 teachers under the State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB) in 2019 was not only good news to indigenes and residents of Ogun State but also to the existing teachers in the state as the recruitment will bring more workforces and relief to the overworked staffers of the state.
The job portal was finally opened between 27th October, 2019 to 8th November, 2019 and a statement made by Mr Kunle Somorin, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun affirmed that about 29,000 applicants applied for the job and the government has started analysing the profiles of the would-be teachers.
It was stated at 365 Days in Office Achievement of Governor Dapo Abiodun under employment that the state had perfected the recruitment of 1500 teachers to the public schools across the 20 LGAs in the state. However, as the world battles the global Covid-19 scourge, the recruitment process has been put on hold, but will resume once things return to normal.

Going forward, a statement made by Prince Dapo Abiodun during an interactive Ogun Youth Government Town Hall Meeting, with the theme; “Youth, Skills and Insecurity: Connections, Costs and Opportunities” held at June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto, Abeokuta, November 2020, He was quoted saying that;
“The recruitment process for teachers through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) would soon commence with the issuance of appointment letters to the successful applicants, adding that the state government had not been able to conduct exams for applicants for teaching jobs through the Teaching Service Commission because of Covid-19 pandemic had stalled the process.
On 25th February, 2021, some applicants met the Hon Commissioner for Education, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu to know the fate of the 1500 Subeb applicants , while the Commissioner confirmed that the SUBEB appointment letters may not be visible henceforth due to the minimum wages and financial implications of the appointment. Hence, the state will shortchanged the appointment to OgunTeach (a program like N-Power), whereby stipend will be paid to applicants.
It is so unfortunate that when other states in the federation are recruiting teachers to improve the quality of their educational sector and reduce unemployment among their youths (Oyo, Ekiti, Osun and Kwara as case study), our dear Ogun State is trying to make a repetition of N-Power which still make over 500,000 youths jobless after 2-4years of active service to the government.
It is over a year now that the interview (final stage) had been conducted for applicants since February, 2020 and the successful applicants are yet to be invited for appointment letters.
In conclusion, we call on the good people of Ogun State to kindly intervene in the recruitment process, as well as plead with the government to release the appointment and posting letters of these able and ready to serve applicants to boost the quality of education in Ogun State.
Thank you
Concerned 2019 Subeb Applicant
